Venues in Australia can add their own service fee on top of the guest platform fee in the Manage platform. It's a percentage of each order that you set, and you keep it.

How the service fee works
You still choose whether your guests pay the guest platform fee or you absorb it. Your service fee is added on top either way.
- It's a percentage. Anything from 0.1% to 20% of the order value, in 0.1% steps.
- It's your revenue. It's paid to you with the order and shows in your sales reports as Service fee.
- It won't change the guest platform fee. Both fees are worked out on the same order value, so your service fee never moves an order into a higher band.
What your guests see at checkout
| Guest platform fee setting | Service fee on? | Fee line your guests see |
|---|---|---|
| Guest pays | No | me&u platform fee |
| Guest pays | Yes | One line with the Service fee name: the guest platform fee plus your % |
| Absorb | No | No fee line |
| Absorb | Yes | One line with the Service fee name: your % only |
Example: a $28.00 order with a 1.8% service fee.
- If your guests pay the guest platform fee, they see one fee line of $1.10 ($0.60 guest platform fee plus $0.50 service fee) and pay $29.10 in total.
- If you absorb the guest platform fee, they see one fee line of $0.50 and pay $28.50 in total.
How to add a service fee
- Go to Payouts & billing > Fees
- Under Add a service fee, select Add a service fee
- Enter your percentage in Additional % to charge, or drag the slider
- Enter the name your guests will see in Fee name shown to guests
- If your POS needs one, enter the code in Service fee POS ID
- Click Save changes
- Check the summary in the Save guest fees dialog, then click Confirm
ℹ️ Changes reach your menu within a few minutes. Orders already in progress keep the fee they started with.
Change or remove your service fee
Go back to Payouts & billing > Fees at any time. Update Additional % to charge, Fee name shown to guests or Service fee POS ID, or select No additional service fee to remove it. Then click Save changes and Confirm.
How your service fee shows in your POS
Your service fee is sent to your POS with each order as a surcharge. For most POS systems there's nothing to set up.
If your guests pay the guest platform fee, that part of the fee line belongs to me&u and isn't sent to your POS. On the $28.00 order above, your guest pays $29.10 and your POS shows $28.50. If you absorb the guest platform fee, your POS total matches what the guest paid.
- How it's labelled depends on your POS. Some POS systems show a "Service fee" line. Others combine it with your other surcharges or show it as a price adjustment.
- Your me&u reports always show it separately. Your Daily Sales report shows the service fee on its own and leaves out the guest platform fee, so its totals should match your POS.
- It won't appear on your me&u invoice. Your invoice only lists the fees me&u charges you.
💡 After you turn the fee on, check the first few orders on your till. If you can't find the fee, check with your POS provider.
Switch off your old service fee surcharge
If you've been using a surcharge called something like "Service fee" or "Platform fee", switch it off as soon as your new service fee is on.
⚠️ If the old surcharge stays on, your guests will be charged twice.
Go to Venue Details > Surcharges and toggle that surcharge Off. Leave any weekend or public holiday surcharges on.
FAQs
Why can't I see the option to add a service fee?
Your POS doesn't support the service fee, and the Fees page shows Service fees are coming soon for your POS. Email Support to let us know you'd like it.
Why can't I see the Fees page?
You need Owner access. Ask an Owner at your venue to set up the fee or update your access.
Why doesn't my POS total match the me&u total or the guest's receipt?
If your guests pay the guest platform fee, that part isn't sent to your POS, so the difference should equal the guest platform fee on the order. If it doesn't, and your POS needs a Service fee POS ID, check the code in Payouts & billing > Fees matches your POS exactly.
Do I pay commission on my service fee?
Yes, the same way it applies to your surcharges.
