When you order through me&u, you may see a fee on your cart called the me&u platform fee. This article explains what the fee is, how much it is, and how it's different from any other charges on your bill. You'll only see this fee when ordering at venues in Australia.

What the me&u platform fee is
The me&u platform fee is a fee me&u charges for using the me&u app to order and pay.
It's charged by me&u, not by the venue you're ordering at. You'll see it as its own separate line on your cart at checkout, before you pay.
ℹ️ Note, some venues choose to cover this fee for their guests, so you won't see it on every order.
Why there's a platform fee
me&u builds and runs the ordering and payment technology you're using - the menu, the cart, the payment, order tracking, loyalty points and support if something goes wrong. Until now, the cost of running it sat entirely with venues.
From 1 September, a part of it is shared with guests, so we can keep improving the app.
How much the fee is
The fee is a fixed amount that depends on your order total. It's capped at $2.90, so it never grows with a larger order.
| Order total | me&u platform fee |
|---|---|
| $0.01 to $24.99 | $0.20 |
| $25 to $49.99 | $0.60 |
| $50 to $74.99 | $1.20 |
| $75 to $149.99 | $2.00 |
| $150 and over | $2.90 (capped) |
The fee updates automatically as you add or remove items, so the amount showing in your cart when you go to pay is the amount you're charged.
Other charges you might see
- Venue surcharges, for example weekend or public holiday surcharges, are set and charged by the venue, not by me&u. They're separate from the me&u platform fee and appear as their own line on your cart.
Frequently asked questions
-
Is the fee charged per order, or per visit?
The fee is charged per order. -
Will I get the fee back if my order is refunded?
If your order is refunded in full, the fee is refunded in full as well. If you think the fee should come back on a partial refund, ask the venue or support. -
Can I remove the fee from my order?
No. The fee applies to orders placed through me&u. If you would rather not pay it, you can order at the bar, or counter or with a server as an alternative. -
Why don't I see the fee at some venues?
Some venues choose to cover the fee for their guests. When a venue does that, the fee doesn't appear on your cart at all. -
Why is my fee a fixed percentage instead?
A small number of venues use the legacy me&u platform. At these venues, the fee is 2.2% of your order total instead of the fixed amounts above. Everything else works the same way: it's charged per order and shows as its own line on your cart at checkout. -
Is the me&u platform fee the same as a Sunday or public holiday surcharge?
No. Sunday, weekend and public holiday surcharges are set and charged by the venue, and they appear as their own separate line on your cart. The me&u platform fee is charged by me&u and shows as its own line, so if your venue applies a surcharge you'll see both.
You should now know what the me&u platform fee on your order is, how it's calculated, and which charges on your bill come from the venue rather than from me&u.
