Stripe processes all payments and payouts for your venues on me&u. As part of new UK financial regulations from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Stripe now requires all connected accounts to verify all of their active company directors and Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs - anyone who owns 25% or more of the business).
This is a regulatory requirement that affects all me&u venues in the UK. The deadline to complete verification is 30 September 2026. If verification is not completed by then, your venues will still be able to trade on me&u as normal but payouts will be suspended until it is done.

What's changing and why
Previously, Stripe only required one director to be verified when a business joined me&u. Under new FCA rules, Stripe must now verify the relationship of all directors and Ultimate Beneficial Owners to the legal entity receiving payouts for every connected account.
This is an anti-money laundering requirement. It applies to all businesses receiving payouts through Stripe in the UK and it is not specific to me&u.
Who needs to be verified
Stripe will ask you to review and confirm:
- All directors for your legal entity
- All Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs), anyone who owns 25% or more of the business
Stripe pre-fills this list for you using a number of third party data sources. This is to give you a head start rather than having you look this up from scratch. Because of this, the list is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate. It may be missing someone, or include someone who has since left the business. You will need to review the list and confirm it, rather than simply accepting it as shown.
How to check if your venue is affected
If your venue needs to complete the re-verification, you will see a prompt: “Let’s review those details” and below a list of the details that Stripe requires you to re-verify. If you don’t see this - the venue doesn’t need re-verifying. See the steps below on where to find this in Manage.
If you have multiple venues, check each one individually as the prompt only appears on venues that still need action.
How to complete the verification
You will need Owner-level access on Manage to complete this process.
- Log into Manage and select the venue you want to verify
- In the left sidebar, go to Payouts and Billing > Stripe Connect
- You will see a prompt: "Let's review those details" this lists the details that Stripe needs you to re-verify
- Click Update Application, this opens a Stripe-hosted verification flow
- Work through each person listed:
- Confirm their details are correct
- Provide any additional information Stripe requests (such as date of birth, home address, or a proof of identity document)
- Submit the flow when complete
- Verification is usually completed quickly, but in some cases it can take up to 24–48 hours for Stripe to finish reviewing and approve the updated details.
If you have multiple venues, you need to complete this process separately for each one — even if the directors, UBOs, and legal entity are exactly the same across all of them.
A note on removing and adding individuals
Stripe may suggest Directors and Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs) using third-party data. This information may not always be up to date, so you may see people who are no longer part of your business or notice someone is missing.
You can remove incorrect individuals or add any missing Directors and UBOs before submitting.
Make sure the final list accurately reflects the current Directors and UBOs of your business. Removing people only to make the process quicker may cause Stripe to flag the account for additional verification later.
If there are any issues after submission, Stripe will notify us and we’ll reach out to you. Otherwise, you can assume the verification has been accepted.
If you’re unsure who should be listed, check with your internal team before submitting.
What happens after 30 September 2026
If verification is not completed by 30 September 2026:
- Your venues will continue to trade on me&u as normal
- Your payouts will be suspended until verification is complete, you will not receive payment for orders taken on me&u during this time
Completing the verification at any point will restore your payouts.
Frequently asked questions
Is this email from me&u legitimate?
Yes. The email asking you to complete Stripe verification is sent by me&u and is 100% legitimate. You can verify this by logging into Manage directly and checking Payouts and Billing > Stripe Connect.
Why do I need to verify directors who have already provided their details?
The new FCA regulations require Stripe to collect a higher level of verification than before. Even if a director was verified previously, they may need to re-verify to meet the new requirements.
Why is Stripe asking for more information from me than from other businesses?
Stripe already holds different amounts of data on different accounts. The more information they already have, the less they need from you. It is not a flag on your account, it just means Stripe needs a bit more from you to reach the same compliance bar.
What is digital/electronic attestation?
Digital attestation (also known as electronic attestation) is a way to confirm that the Directors and Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs) listed for your business are correct without uploading ownership documents.
Instead, someone already listed on your Stripe account (such as a representative, owner, or director) can sign a declaration confirming the details are accurate.
This provides the same level of verification as uploading a document. Stripe may still ask for additional information, such as proof of identity or address, if required.
Do I need to do this for all my venues?
Only venues that show the verification prompt need to complete this process.
To check, go to Manage > Payouts and Billing > Stripe Connect for each venue. If the venue needs re-verification, you’ll see a prompt saying “Let’s review those details” along with the details Stripe needs you to confirm.
If you don’t see this prompt, no action is required for that venue.
If you have multiple venues, check each one individually as verification requirements can differ between venues.
ℹ️ Note: even if all your affected venues share the same legal entity, directors, and UBOs, you'll still need to complete the verification flow separately on each one.
