Here are step-by-step instructions to troubleshoot and resolve common issues when your me&u printer is offline.
Is your printer showing an offline status on your Printer Setup page?
Printers with an offline status will typically indicate one of three issues:
-
The ethernet cable is disconnected or damaged.
-
The power cable is disconnected or damaged.
-
The venue’s internet network is down or not functioning as expected.
Here are the stages of troubleshooting steps to follow:
-
Power Cycle the Printer
-
Check the Ethernet Cable
-
Check the Power Cable
-
Check the Printer Lights
-
Verify Network Connection with a Test Print
Note: Please allow 30-60 seconds for any changes to take effect and reflect on the Printer set up page.
How to restart your printer
Power Cycle the Printer
-
Turn off the printer at the power source.
-
Wait 10 seconds.
-
Turn the printer back on.
-
Allow approximately 60 seconds for the printer’s status to update on the Printer Setup page in me&u.
Important:
-
Check the power cable and ensure the power brick is securely connected, as these connections can become slightly dislodged.
Confirm Connections
-
Ensure all cables (power, Ethernet, or USB) are properly connected.
-
Ensure the POWER LED is lit to verify the printer is powered on.
How to Check if the Ethernet Cable Is Faulty
- Inspect the Cable: Check for visible damage, bent connectors, or loose connections. Ensure the metal pins inside the connectors are straight and not corroded.
- Test with Another Device: Plug the cable into a different computer, router, or device to see if it works.
- Swap with a Known Good Cable: Replace the suspected cable with a working one to confirm the issue.
Verify Network Connection (For Ethernet/Wi-Fi Adapters)
-
Do other devices in the venue also have connection to the network? If no, then this would suggest an issue with the network in the venue.
-
Can your mobile device connect to the network in the venue? If no, this would also suggest an issue with the network in the venue.
Check if the Printer Has an IP Address:
-
Print a self-test report by holding down the
FEED
button while turning the printer on. -
Look for an IP address on the printed report.
-
If no IP address is listed or it starts with "169", reconnect the Ethernet cable.
-
What to Do When Your IP Address Is Not Printing:
-
Verify that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the printer and the router/switch/port.
-
Test the Ethernet port by connecting it to a laptop or computer to confirm internet access.
-
If there is no connection, contact your local IT team or an electrician to configure the port for proper connectivity.
How to Interpret the Flashing LED Status
Refer to the Star Micronics guide to read and interpret the error codes or LED status and determine whether the flashing LED indicates internet-related issues or hardware problems like low paper or a cover-open error.
