What are conditional modifiers?
Conditional modifiers allow you to set a modifier group specifically for nested items. This is why you may choose to use conditional modifiers;
Example 1
You want to charge different prices for toppings, depending on what size pizza a customer chooses.
Example 2
You want to ask a customer how many wine glasses they would like, but only if they select a bottle. The instructions below will walk you through this example.
How to set up a conditional modifier
- If they don't exist yet, first create your Modifier Options
- Go to Your Menu > Modifiers > Modifier options
- Click Create new modifier
- Complete the details and then click Create option
- Repeat these steps until you've created all the required options
- Secondly make a Modifier Group that will appear to the guest
- Go to Your Menu > Modifiers > Modifier groups
- Click Create modifier group
- Chose a Name e.g. How many glasses would you like?
- For Select Type choose "Single"
- For Ordering type you can leave blank to apply to all, or choose specific ordering types. For the number of glasses example, this wouldn't be applicable to Delivery or Pickup so you should enter Dine-in only.
- Click Save and continue to create the group
- On the Modifier options tab, ensure the right modifiers are attached to the group e.g. '2 glasses'
- On the Linked menu items tab, link what nested items this modifier group should appear on e.g. the bottle size of a wine which would be nested under the glass size.
- Click View menu and test that the modifier group is appearing as intended on the nested item only.
You can also view and edit which modifiers are linked to a menu item within the item itself:
- Go to Your Menu > Menu Items
- Find the nested item you want to apply the group to and click on the menu item text to open it
- Click View item modifiers and upsells
- All linked modifier groups are under the Modifiers heading
- To add an existing group, select it's name in the Link modifier group drop down
- If you don't see your group right away, refresh the page
- If you ever want to remove a modifier group from an item, simply click the Unlink icon next to the name of the modifier group. Note this will only remove the group from the item you're editing, if you want to permanently delete the group you will need to do so via Your Menu > Modifiers.
