Keep your customers coming back and grow your business with me&u Reward.
Reward is me&u's all-in-one tool for building loyalty and running promotions that bring your guests back. Use it to set up points-based loyalty, gift cards, member discounts, and discount codes (think $5 off, 20% off cocktails, or a free side). This guide gives you an overview of what Reward can do, then focuses on discount codes: the types available, and the five things to decide when planning one.
Reward runs on its own platform with a separate login to your Manage account. If you do not have an account yet, contact support@meandu.com and we will get you set up.
Before you start
- Reward uses a separate login to your Manage account. Contact support@meandu.com to set one up
- When Reward is enabled for your venue, you can no longer create discounts and surcharges in Manage, except those set to apply venue-wide. To learn more, see the related article on venue-wide discounts and surcharges below
- Some setups (such as bulk codes and member uploads) are configured by the me&u team. Reach out to Support with the details and we will build them for you
The four ways to reward your guests
Reward gives you four options for rewarding guests. You can run one or several at once.
- Discount codes: codes that unlock a set discount, such as $ off, % off, or a free item. This is the focus of the rest of this guide
- Gift cards: work like cash. A $50 gift card can be used over time until the balance reaches $0
- Loyalty program: a points-based program where guests earn points as they spend and redeem them for dollars off a future bill
- Membership tiers: a percentage discount linked to a guest's mobile number that applies automatically at checkout, with no code needed. Great for staff, members, and locals
Types of discount codes
There are three main types of discount codes you can create in Reward.
- Fixed discount: a set dollar amount off. For example, $5 off a parma
- Percentage discount: a percentage off. For example, 20% off cocktails
- Free item: an item at no cost, set up as 100% off that item. For example, free chips
Five things to define for a discount code
Every discount code is built from a few choices. Working through these five points helps you (and our Support team) set up a code that behaves exactly as you intend. The first four are required, and rules are optional.
1. Discount
Choose the type of discount the code applies.
- Fixed: a set dollar amount off
- Percentage: a percentage off
2. Number (code format)
Decide whether guests share one code or each get their own.
- Standalone code: every guest uses the same code. Best for sharing on socials or printed collateral. For example, HAPPYHOUR
- Bulk codes: every guest gets a unique code. Best for sending individual codes through Connect
3. Redemption
Decide how many times the code can be used.
- Limited redemptions: the code can be redeemed a set number of times, for example three times
- Unlimited redemptions: the code can be redeemed an unlimited number of times until it expires
4. Items
Decide what the discount applies to.
- Item: a single menu item
- Section: a menu section
- Category: a menu category
- Cart: the whole order
5. Rules (optional)
Add conditions that must be met for the code to work.
- Item based: only valid for a certain item, section, or category. For example, 10% off cocktails
- Spend based: only valid when a guest spends over a set amount. For example, spend over $50
- Time based: only valid during a set period. For example, Valentine's Day only
💡 Tip, When you contact Support to set up a code, share your answers to these five points. It is the fastest way to get the code built right the first time.
Discounts we cannot set up
Some offers cannot be built in Reward because they combine two different discount types under one code, or rely on item-level pricing that Reward cannot control. Examples include:
- "3 pizzas for $50 and a free cheesy garlic bread"
- "Buy 2 for $20"
- "Choice of 2 pizzas, a side, and garlic bread"
Reward applies a discount across the entire cart rather than to specific items, so these combo deals are not possible. Instead, we recommend:
- Use upsells with modifiers to build package deals like "3 pizzas for $50 and a free cheesy garlic bread." This keeps the guest experience smooth while you stay in control of pricing
- Create a dedicated menu item for the deal, such as "2 pizzas for $20." This is the simplest and most reliable way to run combo offers
